First glimpsed on Primitive Calculators‘ recent hilarious guest programming of all night video institution Rage, now the internet can witness two new videos from the Melbourne synth-punk icons’ 2013 album The World Is Fucked. Both videos have just been premiered via Mess+Noise.
The video for Dead was directed by Matthew Ellery, with lighting effects by Tarek Ishak, and was filmed in a community arts space in Heidelberg. Check it out here.
The video for Why was directed by Robin Plunkett and filmed under the Flemington Bridge. Check it out here.
Primitive Calculators’ next live performance is under their acapella guise as Pocket Calculators, at the Old Bar on SundayAugust 17, with The All Seeing Hand (NZ), Heads of Charm and Diploid.
You’ve heard and loved Geoffrey O’Connor’s suave new single Her Name On Every Tongue. You’ve seen the beguiling, chameleonic video (in which he plays everyone from a prisoner to an astronaut). And now you can witness Australia’s own synth-pop superstar live in concert at his upcoming Melbourne single launch!
The second single from Geoffrey’s forthcoming album Fan Fiction (after last year’s banger Jacqueline), Her Name On Every Tongue slipped into collective consciousness last month, with the video premiered on Spin.com.

Geoffrey’s stellar second solo album Fan Fiction is released by Chapter Music on vinyl, CD and digital on August 8, 2014
Melbourne modern folk auteur Laura Jean returns with First Love Song, the lead single from her upcoming self-titled album. Laura recorded the album in the UK with producer John Parish, revered for his work with PJ Harvey over the course of her career. Rising Norwegian artist Jenny Hval sings backing vocals throughout the album, including on First Love Song.
Premiered this week on popmattters.com, First Love Song evokes a luminous midway point between the thrill of a new relationship, and the growing awareness of patterns established by relationships past.
The album Laura Jean is a return to the intimate folk settings of her earlier work, after the rock dynamics of 2011’s celebrated A fool who’ll. It sees Laura alternate between disarmingly intimate portraits of domestic life and more allegorical tales of a dream world.
Laura Jean is released by Chapter Music on vinyl, CD and digital on 22 August 2014.
Synth-pop star Geoffrey O’Connor outdoes Eddie Murphy in the video for slinky new single Her Name On Every Tongue, playing everyone from a prison warden to an astronaut.
Her Name is the second single from Geoffrey’s new solo album Fan Fiction, which comes out on Chapter Music on August 8, 2014.
You can also pick up Her Name and Fan Fiction’s first single Jacqueline via Chapter’s Bandcamp page.
Check out the premiere on Noisey.

Renowned Melbourne artist, musician and Chapter Music superstar Darren Sylvester has just released a 15 minute instrumental track entitled For You.
For You is the soundtrack to Darren’s art installation of the same name, and has been a much-talked about feature of the National Gallery of Victoria’s massive Melbourne Now exhibition. For You takes the form of an illuminated dance floor, with a palette inspired by a range of Yves St Laurent cosmetics (specifically Les Essentials Rouge Pur Couture, La Laque Couture and Rouge Pur Couture Range Revolution lipsticks, Mar- rakesh Sunset Palette, Palette City Drive, Ombres 5 Lumiéres and Pure Chromatics eyeshadows, and Radiance blush).
Sylvester recorded the minimal yet hip-shaking track as a collaboration with Super Melody’s James Cecil (who also worked on Darren’s suave Chapter album of 2013, Off By Heart), and Conrad Standish of futurist dub pop duo Standish/Carlyon (who also provided some seriously funky slap bass).
But there are still two Chapter bands who haven’t finished launching their awesome 2013 albums! The Stevens and Primitive Calculators both head to Sydney next week, playing separate launch nights at Marrickville’s Red Rattler. The Stevens then take their debut album A History Of Hygiene to Brisbane for two shows, while Primitive Calculators pay their first visit to Hobart in early February, launching their long-awaited studio debut The World Is Fucked.
